If you're looking to enjoy the many beautiful waterways and lakes that Oregon has to offer, registering your boat with the Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) is a must. Fortunately, registering a boat in Oregon is a relatively simple process, and can be done in just a few easy steps.
If you recently bought your boat and you just can’t wait to get out on the water and use it, you can apply for a temporary permit on the OSMB website here. Once you apply online, you can print out your temporary permit and use until your permanent registration arrives (this can take up to 12 weeks in the summer time).
Before you can register your boat in Oregon, you'll need to gather some essential documents. These include:
· Proof of Ownership, including a completed bill of sale and a title assigned to you
· A completed Application for Boat Title and/or Registration (Form 250-R02), available from the OSMB website here.
· Payment for the registration fee.
· Proof of identity such as a driver’s license or state-issued ID card
Once you've gathered all the required documents, you'll need to complete the Application for Boat Title and/or Registration. This form is available on the OSMB website here, and can be completed online or in print.
On the application form, you'll need to provide information about yourself, the boat, and any co-owners. You'll also need to include the boat's hull identification number (HIN), which can typically be found on the boat's registration papers or either stamped or on a plaque affixed to the transom (rear) of the boat.
Once you've completed the application, you'll need to submit it along with your payment and any additional required documents to the OSMB. You can submit your application and payment in person at a local OSMB Registered Agent or by mail. Click here to find the nearest OSMB Registered Agent.

Once your application has been processed and approved, you'll receive your boat registration and decals in the mail. You'll need to affix the decals to your boat before you can legally operate it on Oregon's waterways.
